Accounting – Data Entry – Marketing (Still Looking!!!!)

August 30, 2010 in Jobs, Resumes by Resume

Cmon people! Don't keep me thinking that my career is over at 52!

I hate to sound like an old fogey but "back in my day" (ok so that sounds old... but) the word longevity meant something. Loyalty to a job and vice verse also meant something

I moved here 4 summers ago and got hooked in with the lies of "head hunters" (I use that term loosely because once I got to know their patterns and see what they were all about, they were nothing but hacks seeking temp placements and to fill their own quota)

Part time or full time? Entry level or mid level? Makes no difference! I will gladly start at an entry level position and that is exactly what I did when I went from one of my corporate jobs as an accounting manager into another corporation and I worked my way back up the ladder there as well. I am a firm believer in cross training, learning all aspects of a business, the big picture if you will. I want to know WHY things are done and my biggest pat peeve is when I ask something only to be told "That's the way we have done it for XXXX years" That is fine, but once I know WHY a process is in place then maybe I can tweak it a little to make it work even more efficiently. That is how I took an accounting managers position from two of us to just one within a year. I researched, changed processes and when the time came for the department manager to be replaced they did so with moving me into that spot and they didn't have the need to replace my position. I saved the company 70 K in a salary (and that was in the 90's)

I am a twice degreed accounting professional, I have worked for two of the largest corporations known world wide for over 10 years each. (I left only due to corporate downsizing in each of those positions)
I worked my way up in both companies from an entry level to a supervisory level. I had some great mentors and teams and I worked long and hard to get up that ladder, all to have the ladder lose it's rungs out from under me since I moved here.

I am not necessarily looking for the long 70 hours weeks anymore or high pay. What I am seeking is a home! A place that I can go to every day, make myself the useful asset that I know I can be and connect with a good team of co workers as well as supervisors every day. Then go home and know that I accomplished something that day. Looking forward to the next and the next and the next.

I am a fast and accurate data entry operator, General Ledger Accountant, Fixed Assets Accountant (worked in supervision over a FA department for 7 out of my 10 years with one of my companies so I know FA inside and out) Financial Statements, Cash Flow, Overhead, Payroll, AP and AR lead, you name it, I can do it, and if I am a little rusty then I can get up to speed in no time!

I recently ended a contract position with the Census - I was in the last of the group to be laid off since my scores and attendance were in the top 1/10th of the group of 3000 employed there. Out of 3000 people I made it into the last 400 so that says something right there. I also do part time freelance photography and event planning/fund-raising for charitable organizations. That is my passion and past time.
